WHAT TO DO AT YOUR AUDITION
Going along to any audition can be daunting but the main thing is to attend feeling prepared and organised regardless of how young you are. We have outlined what will be expected from each applicant for an audition with UKTheatreSchool Performing Arts Academy.
Primary 1 through to Primary 4 Age Groups
- Applicants aged from Primary 1 through to Primary 4 do not have to prepare anything in particular for this Audition as we will see them in a small group and do a 20-30 minute workshop with them where they will be assessed for placement on how they interact with others, how they take direction and how they respond to the overall audition workshop process. This workshop will include some Acting exercises, Singing and Movement.
Primary 5 – Primary 7 Applicants
- Applicants aged from Primary 5 through to Primary 7 will also be involved in group work however; they will also be given a small prop that will be included in their acting workshop. This group will also cover a Movement Class with our Choreographer to assess ability (beginner, intermediate or advanced) and go through some exercises with our Vocal Coach. All students of this age group will be expected to show what level there vocal ability is currently at. It is advisable, if the applicant is a strong singer, that they prepare a verse and chorus of any song of their choice. We also encourage applicants to provide us with sheet music for their choice of song where possible.
All High School Aged Applicants
Applicants aged S1 through to S6 would also take part in an assessment workshop for beginner to advanced levels . This workshop is to establish ability and will last approximately one hour.
Intermediate & Advanced applicants should attend prepared to show either:
- 1. a short drama piece (approx 1 minute long)
Or
- 2. An improvisation using a small prop given to you at this audition by our panel.
And/Or
- 3. Prepare a verse and chorus of any song of their choice (to be sung accompanied or unaccompanied). If an applicant chooses to sing and would like our pianist to play for them, they should bring along the appropriate sheet music.
All High school applicants will also cover Movement with our Choreographer to assess ability (beginner, intermediate or advanced).
Musical Theatre Masterclass Auditions
- Musical Theatre Masterclass applicants should prepare a verse and chorus of any musical theatre song of their choice (to be sung accompanied).
- Applicants should bring along the appropriate sheet music marked up and in the correct key.
